Is therapy right for me?

Almost anyone can benefit from psychotherapy because no matter how well you are doing, most people can always use an objective and supportive sounding board for a different way of looking at things in life which are upsetting or stressful.

Psychotherapy for specific mood concerns can also help identify negative or distorted thinking patterns that contribute to feelings of hopelessness, helplessness, and feelings of being "stuck" or constantly worried that often accompany depression and anxiety.  Therapy or counseling can help people regain a sense of control and pleasure in life.

You may want to consider therapy if your symptoms or problems are:

  • impacting your daily quality of life
  • creating problems at work, with friends, or in your relationships
  • disturbing your sleep or appetite
  • potentially risky or harmful to you or someone else
  • upsetting or embarrassing to you
  • continuing to recur between periods of wellness
  • causing you to constantly be "down on yourself" or self-critical
